MIDDLEWICH ROCK 'N' ROLL IS HERE TO STAY!

COMING NEXT!

ROCK BACK THE CLOCK
&
DJ DANCIN' DAVE!
Saturday 13th APRIL
MORE DETAILS SOON!

KEEP AN EYE ON THE MIDDLEWICH DIARY THROUGHOUT 2019 AS WE BRING YOU DETAILS OF ALL MIDDLEWICH ROCK & ROLL EVENTS!

David Tulloch writes:

Hi to everyone! It is with great regret that we have to announce that Derek and Julie are to retire from Middlewich Rock & Roll.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank them both for their hard work and dedication over the last twenty one years. Without them Middlewich Rock & Roll would not be what it is today, and we would not have been able to carry on over the last few years either.

We can assure you we will do our utmost to keep things going at Middlewich Rock & Roll  with everyone's support.

Once again a massive Thank You to them both for all they have done !!!!!

We started Middlewich Rock'n'Roll twenty years ago at the Middlewich Royal British Legion Club and from a small difficult beginning it developed into an accepted venue on the Rock'n'Roll circuit.

All profits were donated to the Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal.

Seven years ago however, due to work commitments out of Middlewich, we had to hand over running of Middlewich Rock 'n' Roll to our then resident disc jockey Jivin' Jim Kiley, who has been running the events ever since.

Jim recently made the decision to move on.

We  therefore decided to take back the running of  Middlewich Rock'n'Roll as from January 2016, with the help of a small team of dedicated volunteers and sponsors and using the same successful format which has served us well over the last twenty years.

We have an excellent  live Rock'n'Roll Band and  great  disco each month and there is also frequently a 1950's gear stall where you can buy everything from 1950s dresses for the ladies to crepes and drapes for the gents.

Our first gig 'under new (old) management'  was on  Saturday 9th January 2016  and featured Juke Box Jive from Bradford - appropriately, the group we
booked for our first gig twenty years ago.

JBJ was supported by one of Stoke-on-Trent's best disc jockeys, Cadillac Dave.

We're proud to be continuing the tradition of donating any profits to the Poppy Appeal.

- Derek and Julie 2016

IN TUNE - MIDDLEWICH

Nikki Hughes writes:
I am a co-founder of a new charity organisation called InTune-Middlewich. We are a group of passionate Middlewich residents who have a combined aim in wanting to make music more accessible and affordable for our town.
All proceeds from our events go to fund a music workshop day for over a hundred Middlewich children who will work with professional musicians on one of three areas; singing, samba drumming and orchestra/improvising. This workshop is planned for January 2016 and we are hoping to be able to fully fund this event.

Middlewich Music, The Boatyard Artspace and The Middlewich Creative write:

MONSTER MASH!

"It's The Boatyard Smash"

Middlewich Music is teaming up with Boatyard Artspace and the Middlewich Creative to bring you a weekend of live music, interactive art workshops and fun for all the family!

Middlewich Music will be hosting the live music stage from 4pm till late on Halloween night itself (Sat 31st Oct), with the Creative bringing art to life through its' workshops throughout the day, as well as a pumpkin carving competition, face painting, a raffle in aid of St Luke's Hospice featuring some amazing prizes and much more!

We'll also be showing LIVE coverage of the Rugby World Cup final, IF England or Wales make it that far*, so while the kids are occupied with the art, the dads will have something to keep them entertained alongside the live music!

As the live music ends around 10pm, if you're still in a partying mood, we'll have a Halloween themed disco to dance the night away to!

On the Sunday, the art workshops take full centre stage as the creative ones amongst you will continue with the work you've started on the Saturday, creating some wonderful hand made masterpieces! There will also be some form of live music (still TBC)!

Fancy dress for the Saturday is OPTIONAL, but massively preferred!

BEST OF ALL, it's all FREE!
(But we will force you to buy raffle tickets! wink emoticon
**This is an event for all the family, but beware, as the night goes on, the music gets louder and the beer will start flowing!**

* UPDATE (4th October) Sadly, we already know that the England team haven't made it to the final (or even the semi-finals). The team 'crashed out' of the tournament on the 3rd October, losing 33-13 to Australia)-Ed

UPDATE (15th OCTOBER)
Here's the line-up for Saturday:

ANNUAL BOAT PULL 2015 (ARCHIVED)

ARCHIVED

APPEARING ON FRIDAY...

Recent photo.
Fred and Craig will be appearing on Friday at the Boatyard, along with Dave Thompson (guitar), Stephen Dent (percussion) and special guest DAI THOMAS!

(Fred reminded me recently that I came up with the name Moore & Moore Blues - something I'd forgotten about. It's not a perfect name, as we had to drop the 's' to make it work.  Then again, Moores and Moores Blues doesn't work at all! -ed.)

MAY DAY RE-OPENING FOR THE KINGS LOCK! (ARCHIVED)

ARCHIVED

Illustration: Cornerstone Inns/The Kings Lock
by Dave Roberts

The Kings Lock Inn, close to the Wardle Canal junction in Booth Lane, has featured before in our Middlewich Diary and it's great to be able to feature it again, this time on an upbeat and optimistic note with the news of the  grand re-opening of the King's Lock on  a very appropriate date, 1st May 2014.
The rebirth of the pub, which has been in a somewhat run-down condition in recent years, comes courtesy of Cornerstone Inns which has a good track record when it comes to revitalising pub premises and also has interests in pubs in Winsford as well as running bars for Middlewich Town Council and the FAB Festival.
The Kings Lock is well-placed to cater for local Middlewich residents and also for thirsty canal users which pass through the lock which gives the pub its name.

You can find out more about the Kings Lock re-opening from our friends at the
