Middlewich Town Councillors taking part in the first ever online Town Council Meeting on the evening of 18th May 2020.

Cllrs Russell and Helen Watkinson resigned from the council earlier in the day.

During the meeting Cllr Hunter was elected Chairman of the Council, and Cllr Parry Vice-chairman.

VE DAY 75th ANNIVERSARY MESSAGE FROM Cllr MIKE HUNTER

The following is a message from the Vice-chairman of Middlewich Town Council,

 Cllr Mike Hunter, on the occasion of the 75th Anniversary of VE Day, 8th May 2020:

'In the midst of a national crisis, we remember the millions who lost their lives in the Second World War and celebrate the 75th anniversary of our victory in Europe over fascism.

We had hoped that this bank holiday would have brought our community together to revive the spirit of 1945, but under current social distancing that is not possible.
So let's get into our front gardens on Friday and do whatever we can to create a street party atmosphere. One day we will meet again for a proper party.
We owe them for the freedoms we enjoy today.
I can say with immense gratitude - to all those who served and those who paid the ultimate sacrifice - your honour, courage and love of freedom will never be forgotten.
Thank you'.

TALES OF WYCH AND WATER CD

The 'Tales of Wych & Water' CD, with reminiscences from people who worked in the Middlewich salt industry and on the waterways which served it, together with original music and song from local musicians, is available from Middlewich Heritage Trust.

'Tales of Wych & Water' was produced for Middlewich Town Council and Middlewich Vision in 2009 by Salt Town Productions.

MIDDLEWICH NEIGHBOURHOOD PLAN

Here's your chance to influence what happens in our town over the next 30 - 40 years. The Town Council and Middlewich Vision are creating the Middlewich Neighbourhood Plan which will play a vital role in making sure that Middlewich people have a real say in planning decisions affecting the town.
This is not just another in a seemingly endless series of questionnaires asking us what we think about the town, and what we would like to see happen here, it is something which will make a real difference, because the Neighbourhood Plan, once it is finalised and adopted, will become a part of the wider Local Plan, which Cheshire East is currently putting together to make sure that planning, particularly of new housing development, is carried out properly and fairly.

Middlewich Town Council are presenting a series of concerts featuring popular tribute bands at the Town Hall in October, November and December.

UPDATE (OCTOBER 25th): The THEM BEATLES concert originally planned for October 17th has now been postponed until a later date.

 The QEII and SLYDE concerts are, however, going ahead as planned.

MIDDLEWICH 'GOOD NEIGHBOUR' SCHEME LAUNCH, JUNE 2013

On Saturday 8th June in Ventnor Close yet another  initiative came into being in this most community-minded of all small towns, as a pilot  for the Middlewich Good Neighbours scheme was launched.

Councillors and officials came together with church leaders and representatives of local organisations to bring the idea to life, initially in the Bembridge Court/St Ann's Road area of the town.

The aim, according to Middlewich Town Council, is to create a 'time bank' with members of the scheme sharing their time and skills to mutually benefit one another. This will not only help people with their day to day lives, but also create an opportunity for skills and knowledge to be shared among the community and help those less able to help themselves to achieve their aims. It's  another example of a local scheme designed to draw the people of Middlewich closer together.

The partnership behind this initiative includes representatives from Middlewich Vision, St Michael's, St Luke's and the Plus Dane Group.

The June sun shone down  on the proceedings as the scheme was launched and photographer Cliff Astles was there to record the scene for posterity.

Pictured in Cliff's photo are, among others, Mayor of Middlewich Cllr Bernice Walmsley and her husband Bill, Congleton MP Fiona Bruce, Thia Hughes of St Michael's, Ceri Edwards from St Luke's and Suzanne Johns who chairs the Middlewich Vision Community Action Group.

Dave Roberts Aw shucks...one does one's best.. I think it's wonderful how things have turned around in recent years and it's now the Keep Middlewich Miserable brigade which is out of step with everyone else.
